GORGE KAYAK


Paddle the Cuyahoga River at the Gorge to see towering rock ledges and breathtaking scenery from your kayak. Led by a certified instructor and a naturalist. Minimum age is 13; ages 13-17 must be with an adult participant. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and be able to swim. We suggest bringing water, sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses and wearing clothes that can get wet. Fee includes instruction and loan of a kayak, paddle and personal flotation device. Space is limited. HISTORY OF THE PORTAGE PATH AND ARTIST’S TALK


Join us for a walk from Big Bend to the northernmost point of the Portage Path. You’ll learn about the history of this vital link between North American waterways as we walk, then enjoy a talk at the northern terminus by artist Peter Jones. Jones created the statues of the portaging American Indian which can be seen at both the northern and southern termini of the Portage Path. This program is presented in coordination with the Portage Path Collaborative as part of a series of events in honor of North American First People’s Day. GORGE DAM PUBLIC MEETING


Members of the public are invited to attend a community update on the process to remove a 420-foot-wide, 60-foot-tall dam within Gorge Metro Park. The dam is one of the largest unresolved impediments to restoring the water quality of the Cuyahoga River and its removal will improve river ecology, create recreational opportunities and drive economic benefits within the local community. At this public meeting, Summit Metro Parks, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) and other stakeholders will present a project status update.
