BIKING TRAILS
Biking is permitted in several Metro Parks locations.
The paved 34-mile Bike & Hike Trail travels southeast from Sagamore Hills to Munroe Falls and Stow. The Bike & Hike Trail was one of the first “rails to trails” conversions in the country. Sections of the Bike & Hike Trail follow the course of two abandoned railroads.
Starting near the Portage Hike & Bike Trail in Kent, this multipurpose trail – on land owned by METRO Regional Transit Authority – follows an unused railroad corridor. Phase II extends the trail to Eastwood Avenue in Akron. Phase III will end downtown near The University of Akron campus and Phase IV will connect the Freedom Trail to the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
We currently offer over 7 miles of trails at the Mountain Bike Area of Hampton Hills Metro Park in Akron. Riders may choose from beginner, moderate and intermediate trails.
Summit Metro Parks manages about half of the Towpath Trail in Summit County. At over 85 miles, this popular multipurpose trail runs from Cleveland all the way to Tuscarawas County.
