Freedom Trail
yellow bar History & Wildlife

Starting near the Portage Hike & Bike Trail in Kent, this multipurpose trail – on land owned by METRO Regional Transit Authority – follows an unused railroad corridor. Phase II construction, now complete, extends to Eastwood Avenue in Akron. Eventually, it will connect with downtown near the University of Akron campus.

Park planners are seeking public comment on a neighborhood connector trail that, when Phase 3 construction is complete, will allow users access to the Freedom Trail through Adams Park in Akron.

Amenities

The Freedom Trail travels 6.2 miles between the Middlebury Lot to Eastwood Avenue in Akron. When completed, this eight-mile multipurpose trail will connect Akron and Kent and become another popular linear park managed by Summit Metro Parks.

Please use trail etiquette while enjoying the Freedom Trail.
