Summit Metro Parks has been honored with an Award of Excellence from the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (OPRA), earning 2nd Place in the Management Innovation category for its Age-Friendly initiatives.
This recognition highlights the park district’s commitment to supporting the county’s growing senior population by removing barriers to participation and ensuring parks remain accessible, welcoming spaces for health, well-being and social connection. Through this work, Summit Metro Parks is addressing a critical community need that speaks directly to its mission.
OPRA’s annual Awards of Excellence recognize organizations throughout Ohio that embody the vision, dedication and demonstration of excellence in parks and recreation. These awards highlight the efforts of those organizations that transcend everyday standards to make a difference and improve the quality of life in Ohio communities.
“I am amazed every day by the work that parks and recreation professionals are doing to improve the quality of life in communities around Ohio, and these are the best of the best,” said OPRA Executive Director Woody Woodward. “Again this year, we received more nominations than ever before. It’s just a powerful statement about the incredible work going on in parks and recreation agencies around the state.”
Summit Metro Parks staff will accept the award on February 3, 2026 at OPRA’s Awards Celebration as part of the 2026 OPRA Conference & Trade Show in Sandusky. OPRA is a non-profit, public interest organization representing more than 2,000 professionals and citizen board members striving to provide quality park and recreational facilities and opportunities for all Ohioans while protecting and preserving Ohio’s natural resources.
