SUMMARY:Free the Falls Progress Report
DESCRIPTION:Members of the public are invited to attend a community update on the process to remove a 420-foot-wide\, 60-foot-tall dam within Gorge Metro Park. The dam is one of the largest unresolved impediments to restoring the water quality of the Cuyahoga River and its removal will improve river ecology\, create recreational opportunities and drive economic benefits within the local community. \nOn Tuesday\, April 28 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the Akron-Summit County Public Library – Main Library (60 S. High St.\, Akron)\, partners will present a progress report. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.\, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Before the meeting\, enjoy refreshments and browse Free the Falls t-shirts for sale. \nParking is available at the garage at 40 S. High St. or the surface lot at 71 S. High St. Parking in the High and Market Deck is free after 6 p.m. on weekdays\, with one free hour available through validation at the library welcome desk. Additional parking information can be found online. \nASL interpretation (English to ASL) will be provided during the meeting. That’s not all the floating we’ll do — root beer floats will be available while supplies last. Advance registration is required and begins 6/1. \nProgram Schedule \n\n\n\n\n8 – 11 a.m. : Guided kayak trips with Summit Metro Parks. (Registration required)\n8 – 11 a.m. : Guided canoe trips with Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition. DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the return of lake sturgeon to the Cuyahoga River! Once a familiar part of Ohio’s waterways\, these ancient fish disappeared from the river for decades. Thanks to years of restoration work and improving river health\, lake sturgeon are making their way back. Help us mark this exciting moment and send the next generation of sturgeon on their journey into the Cuyahoga River. \nSmall visitor groups will have the opportunity to take turns releasing one young sturgeon into the river and learn about the ongoing efforts to restore the Cuyahoga River watershed. \nOn the same date\, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Cleveland Metroparks will be hosting their own sturgeon release events. Throughout these events\, discover how collaboration and stewardship are helping transform the Cuyahoga River and create a healthier future for wildlife and people alike. \nPlease RSVP\nWhile the event is free and open to the public\, registration to release a sturgeon is requested to ensure a great experience for all visitors.
